To be a member of CDA, you must be a member of The American Dietetic Association (ADA).
Why Should I Be a Member of ADA?
Founded in 1917, ADA's nearly 65,000 members in the U.S. and abroad help shape the food choices and impact the nutritional status of the public. The membership includes dietitians, dietetic technicians, students and others holding baccalaureate and advanced degrees in nutrition and dietetics.
Most dietetics professionals choose to belong to ADA because of the variety and quality of membership benefits. ADA provides many opportunities for its members to be successful and to participate in continuing education opportunities that support both their professional needs and their plan for lifelong learning.
For more information and an application, visit ADA's website at www.eatright.org/cps/rde/xchg/ada/hs.xsl/home_4904_ENU_HTML.htm
How to Become a CDA Member
If you are a member of ADA and your state mailing address is CT, you are automatically a CDA member. If your state mailing address is other than CT, you can choose CT as your state affiliate through your ADA membership. ADA only allows for one state affiliate per member.
If you are interested in becoming a member, or would like more information, please contact our Executive Office at 860-413-9355 or email our CDA Office.
State Certification How to Become Registered in Connecticut
As the managed care challenge continues to unfold, more and more providers are requiring that dietitians be licensed or certified in the state in which they practice to be reimbursed for nutrition services. In response to the frequently asked question, "How do I become certified in CT?", here are the steps to become a Certified Dietitian-Nutritionist (CD-N):
Obtaining the Application For information about the application process and to apply, click here.. It is advisable to do this a month before your birthday, since subsequent annual certification renewals are automatically sent out by the State before your birthday. Note: ONLY Registered Dietitians are EXEMPT from proving that they have the required training and experience in the field of dietetics/nutrition and from taking a State-administered certification exam.
Completing the Application To complete the application, Registered Dietitians just need to: - Request a letter from CDR (800/877-1600 Ext. 5500) to be sent directly to the State to provide official verification of registration. - Complete the 2 page application. - Obtain a passport photo to affix to the application. - Have the completed application notarized. - Obtain a money order or bank check for $150.00 payable to the "Treasurer, State of Connecticut." (The annual renewal fee is $50.00 and due on your birthday.) - Mail the completed application to the address indicated on the application.
Receiving Confirmation You can expect a letter from the State in about 6 weeks saying that you are now a CD-N. This will be followed be 3 Certificates; the larger one can be displayed in your office, and the two smaller wallet-sized ones are for personal use and to give to your employer, respectively. Insurance companies can contact the State to verify your certification.
