Dietetics Program, Nutritional Sciences

The Didactic Program in Dietetics at the University of Connecticut is currently granted developmental accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education of the American Dietetic Association, 216 W. Jackson Blvd., Chicago, IL 60606-6995, (312) 889-4876. The dietetics program is a four-year undergraduate degree program. Upon completion the student will receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutritional Sciences and will be eligible to apply for a dietetic internship.

The mission of the Dietetics option is to provide students with a broad general education background. Through this academic preparation, the student will develop as a strong well-rounded individual. It is our philosophy to require a minimum number of required courses but continue to provide the student with a solid and varied background. Students may develop an area of expertise if so desired. Students in this option are encouraged to complete independent studies. The Department of Nutritional Sciences has strong faculty research programs and there is ample opportunity for students to become involved in research activities. Students are strongly encouraged to obtain "hands on" experience in the field of dietetics. The Department offers approved courses in our curriculum for field experiences.

Additional information including a listing of required courses for the dietetics program, other options available to undergraduates, faculty information, graduate program information, and much more may be found at our website at
