The Women Infants and Children (WIC) Program is hiring energetic “Public Health Nutrition Consultants” for statewide nutrition activities including education, policy, training, and program growth. All positions are located in Sacramento, with varying travel requirements.

The Public Health Nutrition Consultant II (PHNC II) is responsible for leading various projects and providing training, consultation and technical assistance to WIC local agencies in assigned regions. The PHNC II reviews and approves WIC local agencies corrective action plans and the Nutrition Services Plan, approves the methodology of WIC local agency nutrition assistant training programs, approves the justifications for therapeutic nutrition formulas, and conducts technical assistance visits to local agencies. The PHNC II independently assesses 125 WIC sites and identifies in writing deficiencies in program compliance identified on annual site visits, ISIS record reviews, and as a result of biannual program audits. Independently consults with 3 WIC local agency directors to assist them in the development of written corrective action plans (CAP) to ensure nutrition services are in accordance with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulations. Conducts ongoing technical assistance visits in the Los Angeles Basin region, which includes 3 agencies that have approximately one-third of the statewide participants, to evaluate the implementation of all nutrition components of the CAP such as high risk participant screening protocols; blood work documentation; therapeutic formula screening and justification; lesson plans for nutrition classes; and breastfeeding promotion and education. Represents the WIC Program on monthly interagency committees such as the food assistance committee; food stamp outreach committee and the food assistance policy action team to recommend ways programs can achieve their participation and educational goals. Independently conducts a learning needs assessment and prepares curricula and materials for workshops, regional trainings and staff in-services on nutrition topics such as nutrient needs during pregnancy and lactation; food preparation for toddlers; and pediatric food allergies. Independently leads various statewide projects and workgroups (i.e., revitalizing nutrition services; revisions to sections of the Nutrition Services Plan, implementing the new food package; and WIC Program leadership awards) and completes work plans, status reports and project summaries. Writes Primary WIC Program Contact letters and consults with WIC local agency directors by telephone and email for the purpose of communicating the implementation of new projects.

Eligibility requirements include Registered Dietitian Credential, Masters Degree in a nutrition related field and two years work experience. We offer excellent benefits and 14 paid holidays per year. We also pay for CDR dues and ADA dues, and paid education leave for CEU’s.

Salary: $3,328- $6,173/month depending on experience and education.

My client is seeking a Dietitian Consultant that will provide clinical nutritional and dietetic services to patients and their families directed at supporting and maximizing the nutritional status and adjustment of the patient.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assess the nutritional and related dietetic needs of each patient, including current dietary patterns; food preferences, selection, and preparation; and level of understanding of dietary intervention as a prescribed treatment.
  • Consult with the physician regarding assessment and clinical data and recommends therapeutic diets to meet the needs of the patient.
  • Counsel patients and their families on the prescribed diet, including nutritional principles, dietary plans, food selection and preparation, economics and adaptations required to best match the prescribed diet to the patient's lifestyle.
  • Document in the medical record an initial assessment of each patient and at least monthly progress notes which reflect all clinical nutritional and dietetic services provided. These shall include identification of current problems, current goals and the actions planned to achieve goals, and evaluation of patient progress.
  • Participate in team review of each patient to develop both long and short-term plans, to review patient progress, and to recommend changes in treatment based on the patient's current nutritional and dietetic needs.
  • Assist other personnel through education and direction to support the dietetic services program by learning to deal effectively with nutritional and dietetic problems as they arise.
  • Assume responsibility for his/her own continuing education including participation in professional organizations related to ESRD patient care management.
  • Participate in staff meetings or in-service education meetings when requested by the Unit Administrator.

Qualifications:

  • Currently recognized as a Registered Dietitian by the American Dietetic Association.
  • At least one year experience in clinical nutrition.

Dietitian services are obtained through contractual agreement based on an hourly fee, not to exceed a specified number of hours per patient per month set for each facility.
