The Assistant Director of Food and Nutrition Services oversees the operation of the organization’s food and nutrition services, including pantry services, home delivered food boxes, and home delivered prepared meals, as well as nutrition assessment, counseling and education. Carry out the quality assurance program to ensure that the organization’s services effectively meet the nutritional needs of people living with HIV/AIDS. Provide nutritional counseling to individual clients and provide nutrition education through written communications with clients and programming at the grocery centers. Track nutrition activity and measure outcomes to assure clients are effectively targeted for nutrition services and to monitor progress towards annual goals. Asian Pacific Health Care Venture, Inc
is a non-profit community health center located in east Hollywood and Los Feliz area and provides direct clinical and education services targeting low income, uninsured, and monolingual Asian and Pacific Islanders in the Hollywood/Silver Lake/Echo Park areas of Los Angeles. APHCV provides full lifecycle health care services including pediatric, prenatal, adolescent, adult and geriatric care, family planning, and HIV testing and counseling. APHCV also operates its REAL Youth Clinic on Wednesday evenings, providing youth-friendly clinical services to youth ages 12-24, as well as a school-based health center (SBC) at John Marshall High School. 

The registered dietitian will:

  • Provide individual nutrition counseling to Marshall High School students at SBC and primarily low-income, non-English/limited English-speaking APHCV clients (with an interpreter) with conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity, or hyperlipidemia at the main clinical site as per Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) guidelines.
  • Be a member of the Diabetes Instructional Team and will work with patients in the process of Diabetes Self Management Education. The RD must be experienced and skilled in diabetes and can potentially sit for the CDE Exam if the RD chooses to do so.
  • Provide individual nutrition counseling to gestational diabetes patients.
  • Develop age-appropriate and culturally sensitive, self-administered screening tools to assess patients’ eating habits and level of physical activity.
  • Develop age-appropriate and culturally sensitive strategies to effectively educate nutrition clients, bringing about behavioral and other measurable changes in diet and physical activity. 
  • Formulate meal plans with clients based on clients’ medical history and eating/exercise habits.
  • Assist in diabetes curriculum modification to add/enhance its nutritional component.
  • Conduct nutritional workshops in conjunction with diabetes self-management classes as needed.
  • Review prenatal patient charts and identify patients at nutritional risk and provide appropriate counseling.
  • Review Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program (CPSP) protocol and update and sign-off as needed.
  • Consult and/or participate in community nutritional programs (including one-on-one and group counseling, presentations, etc.) at the main site and at school-based clinic.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

  • 1. Registered Dietitian Credential in good standing with minimum two years community/work experience in related field.
