chair-mcdonald0809-smGreetings,

Even though it has been a month since FNCE in Chicago, I want to take a moment to reflect on some of our NEP events during that time.

  • A special thank you to The United Soybean Board and ZESPRI™Kiwifruit for sponsoring our member-networking luncheon. Dr. Mark Messina shared his expertise on soy and

health related issues and provided an update on soy research.

  • Our co-planned session with HEN - Food Access and Community Partnerships: Steps to Reducing Health Disparities – was well received. Joan Nachmani, MS CNS SFNS, director, Philadelphia School District EAT.RIGHT.NOW program and Tara Hatala, RD, director of Greater Boston Food Bank spoke about their respective programs and how they are helping to reduce health disparities within their communities.
  • We had many visitors to the NEP booth at DPG Showcase and the opportunity to meet our members and recruit new members.
  • A special congratulation goes out to our 2008 NEP Student Scholarship winners – Edith Clogg, University of Maryland; Temika Handfield, Florida International University; and Adrienne Raimo, Ohio State University.
  • Congratulations to NEP 50 year members – Clara Browning Baity, San Diego, California and Mary Goriesky, Bloomington, Minnesota.
  • NEP again sponsored a table at the ADAF Gala. Those in attendance included the 2008 NEP Award Winners and Honorable Mentions – Bill Evers, Joyce Woodson, Amanda Park and Linda Bobroff; NEP student scholarship awardees; and Pat Krause, an NEP member who responded to a last minute e-mail search to fill the tenth seat, our nominating chair Kathleen Morgan and me.
  • Finally, a special thank you to the members of the leadership team whose hard work and dedication helped to make this year’s FNCE programs a success.

Be sure to look at the photo gallery from Chicago!

Wishing everyone a happy, safe and healthy holiday season and new year!
